Julius Caesar Live
April 15
On Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m., Shakespeare Festival St. Louis performs at the
Poplar Bluff Municipal Library staging a free community performance of William Shakespeare's
"Julius Caesar." The play is set in the ancient Roman Republic. Julius
Caesar’s growing power and popularity with the common citizens causes great distress among
other politicians, notably Brutus and Cassius. They conspire with fellow Romans to assassinate
Caesar. How will this weigh upon the conspirators? How will Caesar’s friend Mark Antony
react? The cast includes Michael James Reed, Mitchell Ferguson, Gabby Diaz, Erika Flowers, and
Britteny Henry. The play is adapted and directed by Joanna Battles.
Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” begins the
library’s 2017 Summer of live musical and theatrical performances. The popular live concert
series “Music on the Lawn” returns to the Library Sensory Garden in June.
Shakespeare Festival St.
Louis’ Education Tour is part of Shakespeare in American
Communities, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts
Midwest. The goal of this non-profit touring company is to enable all students and all communities
to form a lifelong connection with Shakespeare and his works.
Bring your blanket and picnic basket and join us in the garden. Pick up
a free ticket at the Poplar Bluff Library. In inclement weather, the performance takes place
inside the library. For more information about this event, please call (573) 686-8639.
